The first school week with the girls went by faster than expected. It took me a little bit to get the hang of things (even now I’m still adjusting), but things are running more smoothly now which is good.
Tonight, there is entertainment. I’m not 100 % sure what that means, but I think it involves dancing. It should be fun. It also means that there is no quiet time, this makes me very happy. Quiet time has become the bane of my existence. I hate quiet time. No, I don’t hate quiet time, I hate having to enforce quiet time. The girls do not like to be quiet. They also do not like to listen. They have forced me to become mean. I don’t like to be mean, but it is the only way.
Banani has a clean plate policy. I also am not a fan of this. I don’t like it when my food touches other food, especially when these two foods are sauce and rice. I do not like my rice to have any sauce on it. At home, I refuse to eat it. Here, I eat saucy rice. Everyday my rice touches some sauce. I have become used to it, but if I had it my way I would not be eating saucy rice. We also eat coleslaw practically everyday. I have decided to stop eating coleslaw.
Yesterday I had my first children’s class. It was wonderful. The kids were so much fun, and I got to colour. In Singapore there is a stationary brand called Colleen! I was so excited to see crayons bearing my name. I may have taken one out of the hand of a child exclaiming that it was my name. She didn’t get mad, luckily for me.
On Fridays we also have a deepening with the Baha’i girls. Right now we are studying the Ridvan message. It is interesting to hear the opinions of people from different cultures.
Monday and Tuesday are national holidays in Zambia, so there is no school for the girls. Yay, long weekend. It means that we get to sleep in! Since today was Saturday, we also got to sleep in. I woke up at 0700! Normally, the girls are up at 0530, so 0700 seems so late. I go to bed so early here, at 2130. It feels like it’s so much later since the sun sets at 1800. I get confused every night!
